Volleyball Journey

When I first discovered volleyball, I was captivated by the sport. Watching videos of Ajithlal, one of India’s best volleyball players known for his powerful attacks, inspired me deeply. I wanted to play just like him. I started training seriously at 15, when I was in 9th standard, by joining the Sargavethi Club in my hometown. At first, I was only a ball boy, but that gave me the chance to study the game closely and get comfortable in the environment.

By the time I reached 10th standard, I finally got to step onto the court. I began with simple receiving drills and gradually learned the fundamentals. My love for the game just kept growing. In 11th standard, our club organized its first match, and that became my debut tournament — it was an unforgettable moment that sparked my competitive spirit. In 12th standard, I represented my school in the state tournament, and my performance there caught the attention of a senior who encouraged me to try out for Hindustan Arts and Science College in Chennai.

I gave my best at the trials and earned a sports quota seat, which allowed me to play for my college team for three years under Madras University. Though I wasn’t selected for the university team, I never lost heart — I kept training hard and completed my UG degree. After graduation, things took a tough turn when I injured my leg during a match. I had to stay away from the game for a year, but I focused on recovery and came back stronger than ever.

Soon after, the Kerala youth state team trials were announced. I participated and got selected! Playing for Kerala was a huge honor, and our team went on to become runners-up that year. That success motivated me to aim higher, so I joined Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education in Kumaracoil. Under the guidance of Alson Sir, I refined my technique and gained valuable experience. His mentorship helped me perform exceptionally well at the All India University level, where I earned a Form-3 ranking before completing my degree.

Over the years, I’ve played in numerous tournaments, and my consistent performances eventually caught the attention of Abinaya Global Business Hub. They offered me a chance to play for their company team — even in international competitions. Today, I manage my professional career and my passion for volleyball side by side. Through every success and setback, I’ve learned one key truth: with perseverance and hard work, success in this sport will always follow.
